Arabic (مريم) form of the name Mary - mother of prophet Isa (Jesus).
Maryam in Muslims world is the mother of Prophet Isa. In the Qur'an Maryam is the only female name that is mentioned in (the others mentioned in the Qur'an are called just "the wife of Adam", "the wife of Pharaoh", "the mother of Moses" etc.
Islam says that the prophet mentioned Maryam among the others four greatest women in the history of Islam; Muhammad's first wife Khadija, his daughter Fatima and Asiya.
Maryam/Mariyah bint Shamoon al-Quptiya was one of the thirteen Prophet Muhammad`s wives: Khadija, Sawda, Aisha, Hafsa, Zaynab (bint Khuzayma), Hind (Umm), Zaynab (bint Jahsh), Juwayriyya, Safiyya, Ramla, Maymuna, Rayhana. She was one of several slaves whom the Governor of Egypt sent as a present to Muhammad. He kept her as a concubine despite the objections of his official wives, who feared her beauty. Mariyah bore Muhammad a son, Ibrahim.
