There are multiple origins and translations for the name Safa:
1. Arabic name (صَفَاء) [safaa] denotation - "cleanliness, clarity, purity, serenity, fineness, lucidity, pureness", or of (صفا) the name of hill near the sacred Kaaba. Cognate with the name Saf.
Safa and Marwa - the name of the hills in Mecca around which one of the rites is performed. Muslims walk between the two hills, which they believe was made a ritual as a tribute to Hajar's search for water in the area when she ran out of provisions after Ibrahim left her in the valley upon Allah's command.
2. Hebrew (שָׂפָה) means - "language; lip, tongue; border, edge".
