Almost spot-on. I am a German native with that name, and have researched the origin and meaning. "Gang" indeed means path/walk/course, but changes in the context of this name. The meaning of "Wolfgang" is "one that goes into battle like a wolf".

For my best knowledge, "wolf's path" as translation of the Germanic rooted name "Wolfgang" is not correct.
Instead, this type of Germanic names is always compiled of two parts, usually one with grammatical female and one with male gender, which do not have to be connected; the grammatical gender of the second part derives the gender of the named Person (Hildebrand = male Name, Brandhilde = female).
If I am right, the two parts of Wolfgang are wolve and fight, so you could use the modern Translation of native Americans that sounds so nice, i.e. "fighting like a wolve".
