There are multiple origins and translations for the name Amun:
1. Egyptian name which actually means - "hidden; undercover".
Amon in Egyptian mythology is the most important god, the God of the sun. The cult of Amun was born in Thebes, and then spread throughout all Egypt. His wife Mut was the goddess of the sky, and his son Khonsu was God of the Moon and together they called as Theban Triad. During the Middle Kingdom Amon became known as Amun-Ra. Later Amun acquired the status of most loved and highly revered God of the pharaohs. Amon was worshiped as a wise and all-knowing God.
2. Hebrew (אָמוּן) which actually means - "apprentice; faithful, educated; devoted, dedicated".
