There are multiple origins and translations for the name Jew:

1. Hebrew (Jewish) name-forming (יהודי) means - "the stranger from the other side; from the other side of the river (Efrat, Jordan)". From the same root (עבר) derived the (לְעֵבֶר) [lehaavir] - "toward" and (להעביר) [laavor] - "transfer, pass".

2. Ancient Greek εὐρύς [eurys] denotation - "wide, broad".
