Hebrew (עליון) occurs in combination with El, YHWH or Elohim, and also alone. It appears chiefly in poetic and later Biblical passages. The modern Hebrew adjective "`Elyon" denotation - "supreme" (as in "Supreme Court") or "Most High". El Elyon has been traditionally translated into English as "God Most High". The Phoenicians used what appears to be a similar name for God, Έλιον. It is cognate to the Arabic `Aliyy.
