There are multiple origins and translations for the name Leena:
1. Finnish (Finnic) form of the name Hellene/Helen - "sunny"
2. Latin leaena from the ancient Greek (λέαινα) [léaina] which actually means - "lioness", see Lena or Lina
Leena - the Athenian hetero, the mistress of Aristogiton or Harmodius, who was tortured after Hipparchus was killed. In order not to unwittingly turn out her accomplices, Leena bit her tongue out. In her honor, the Athenians erected a statue of a lioness in the Acropo.
